Late diagnosed ADHD, ASD & AuDHD welcome here
Why OT (Occupational Therapy)?
OT addresses the functional, sensory, and daily-living layer that medication and talk therapy alone cannot:
Executive function systems — routines, planning tools, task initiation, time management
Sensory regulation — environments, strategies, and nervous system support
Burnout recovery and prevention — energy budgeting, pacing, early warning sign recognition
Daily living skills — home, study, work, parenting, relationships
Our approach
Neuro-affirming, trauma-informed care
A strengths-based approach that helps you understand your unique brain and work with it, not against it.
Flexible sessions in a sensory-considerate environment
Meet me where you're most comfortable — tele-health from home, or a warm clinic space based in Newcastle with the gentle support of a therapy dog.
Goals centred on what matters to you
We work on the things you're feeling stuck with — in the areas of life that matter most to you, not anyone else.
Collaborative approach
Working alongside your already existing care team such as GP, psychiatrist or psychologist, as well as involving significant others and family members where appropriate.
Neurodivergent girls & women
Women and girls are consistently under and mis-diagnosed as they don’t match the male outdated male prototype and often internalise many of their struggles.
Typically what shows up instead:
Predominantly inattentive-type ADHD
Quietly overwhelmed, easily distracted, disorganised and often carrying years of anxiety and self-doubt
Autistic camouflaging
Masking, scripting, perfectionism & holding it together in public and crumbling in private
Sensory overwhelm, shutdowns, and burnout
Co-occurring mental health issues
Chronic pain and chronic illness
Heightened periods of challenge around transitions
Starting high school, university, first job, becoming a parent
At Empowering Minds OT, we provide a tailored approach to girls and women, including an understanding of hormones, and how your menstrual cycle, pregnancy, postpartum, or perimenopause can shape your symptoms in ways that have been overlooked for too long.
